Welcome to the new website of the TAW U3A. TAW U3A (University of the Third Age) is a member of the Third Age Trust. We take our name from the River TAW that runs past Barnstaple in North Devon where the majority of our members live.
The Third Age Trust has nearly 800 local U3A’s in the UK with 250’000 members, with TAW having over 300 members & 40 interest groups.
U3A membership is related to that period of life when full time employment as ceased (The Third Age) when people are free to develop interests that previously they had not had the time or freedom to pursue. No exams are taken, no degrees awarded, just people coming together to provide educational, creative & leisure activities in a friendly social environment.
TAW U3A draws upon the knowledge & skills of its members to organise & provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of its members. These groups are as diverse as Art, History, Travel, and Walking & Photography. If we don’t have a group already in existence for your particular field of interest, then perhaps you would like to start one & let others benefit from your skills & experience.
Our main event is a monthly lunch with a speaker held in the Park Hotel in Barnstaple. Additionally, we hold a monthly coffee morning at the Roundswell Hall next to Sainsburys, which are hosted by the interest groups in turn & are open to all. These coffee mornings are an excellent way for prospective new members to see what we are about, so why not pop along & see for yourself.
